Nose Reshaping

Nose reshaping, medically known as ‘Septo-rhinoplasty’ or ‘Rhinoplasty’, and commonly referred to as a ‘nose job’, involves reducing (or increasing) the bone and cartilage over which the skin is draped.

The nose is a central feature of the face and many people are self conscious about its size and shape. Re-shaping can address the outline of the nose, the nostrils, the nose tip and the bridge.

This surgical nose reshaping procedure can be an option for those who have inherited features they dislike or following injury. The nose continues to grow until around the age of 16, so surgery is not advisable before this, and the surgeons at New Image Clinic will often advise to not consider nose reshaping until the patient is over 18 years old.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does rhinoplasty take?

This will depend on the procedure or combination of procedures undertaken. Nose reshaping surgery is performed under a general anaesthetic and can take between two to three hours to complete. Bone and cartilage will be removed using small incisions in the skin between the nostrils and septum or by making tiny cuts inside the nostrils. Sometimes augmentation (enlargement or re-shaping) will require using bone and cartilage from elsewhere in the body, which means there will be two surgical sites for recovery.

What are the risks associated with nose reshaping surgery?

All surgery carries with it an inherent risk and potential complications. Sometimes the results are not exactly what you might have hoped for. These risks, and your expectations, will be discussed in detail during the initial consultation so that you are able to make an informed decision about whether to proceed. Risks with surgical procedures are greatly minimised when you use such competent, capable and experienced surgeons as those at New Image Clinic.

How much does rhinoplasty cost?

Depending on the type of rhinoplasty procedure (open or closed), the surgery will be likely to cost between £6000 and £7,500.

What happens during the initial consultation at New Image Clinic?

At your initial consultation, you will meet both of your plastic surgeons: Mr Ali Juma and Mr Jamil Hayek. They will discuss your full medical history with you in order to confirm your suitability for surgery. They will also give you a thorough physical examination to ascertain your current state of health. This is to ensure that the procedure is the right choice for you. You will be able to ask questions and discuss any worries that you may have.

What is the recovery process?

Post rhinoplasty, you should expect to rest for two weeks after surgery. You should not undertake exercise or activity that might risk knocking your nose, which will initially be protected with a splint. There will be some swelling and bruising under your eyes and around your nose, and you will be advised to sleep propped up on pillows to help reduce these more quickly. You will need to breathe through your mouth for the first week as your nose is likely to feel blocked, and you may experience some nose bleeds. Between four and six weeks after surgery you will find that you are returning to normal, although it might be up to six months before you are fully recovered. In some patients swelling may persist up to 18 months following the surgery. Your individual recovery process will be closely monitored and assessed at your follow up consultations.
