When it comes to the “facelift” procedure, modern surgical techniques now mean that our surgeons can create the most natural appearance possible, avoiding the unnatural and ‘over-stretched’ look of the past. Topical interventions, such as face creams and anti-ageing serums, don’t offer long lasting solutions because they don’t address the deeper tissues of the face, which lose elasticity as we age. This, combined with the simple force of gravity, causes sagging, creases, wrinkles and the tell-tale ‘jowls’ around the jaw line that seem to accompany us all into middle age.

Surgery focuses on the lower half of the face and neck, to lift and pull the skin up and back over the face, leaving a smooth and much less wrinkled surface. The procedure is often combined with eye and brow lift surgery to enhance rejuvenation of the facial appearance.

Some patients that have had non-surgical facelift treatments, such as injectable dermal fillers and wrinkle relaxing injections, may be very happy with the temporary results achieved and at a later date begin to seek a surgical procedure that can provide more permanent results.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a facelift procedure take?

A surgical facelift procedure usually takes between three and five hours, depending upon the procedure or combination of procedures performed. These will include incisions above the hairline, in front of the ears and beneath and behind the ear lobes. You will be given a general anaesthetic and will stay in hospital overnight post-procedure. There will inevitably be some scarring, which will fade over time, but our surgeons will endeavour to keep this to a minimum and are very skilled in keeping scarring to hidden areas, such as the hairline.

What are the risks associated with a facelift?

All surgery carries with it a risk of potential complications. These will be discussed with you in detail during your initial consultation so that you can make an informed decision about whether you want to undergo the procedure. Of course, these risks are minimised in the hands of our well qualified and experienced surgeons at New Image Clinic.

How much does a facelift cost?

This very much depends on the procedure, or combination of procedures, that you choose to undertake. A mini facelift could start from as little as £6500, whereas a more complex mix of surgery could cost up to £10,000. Your individual circumstances will dictate what can be achieved and the consequent expenditure. This will be discussed in great during your initial consultation.

What happens during the initial consultation at New Image Clinic?

Mr Ali Juma and Mr Jamil Hayek will discuss your full medical history with you to ensure that this procedure is appropriate for your circumstances. They will also undertake a physical examination to determine your current state of health and suitability for surgery. The surgeons will also discuss your desired outcome to ensure that this is achievable with your chosen procedure. The surgery will be explained to you in great detail, and there will be an opportunity to ask questions and voice any worries that you may have.

What is the recovery process associated with facelift surgery?

You should expect some swelling, bruising and puffiness for two to three weeks after surgery. This will gradually improve, but it could be up to nine to twelve months before the full benefit of surgery is evident. You will be advised to sleep propped up initially, to help reduce swelling. in patients were bandages were used they should be removed after the first week, and you won’t be able to shower until the stitches were removed to avoid any contamination of your stitches. Some scarring may be visible at first, but this in the majority is likely to fade significantly over time. You will be advised to take some time off work to aid the healing process, and your full recovery progress will be assessed at your follow up consultation with our surgeons.
